The clamp fits on the tip of your finger, covering the nail and cuticle. You may feel a small amount of pressure. Keep the oximeter on as long as needed to monitor your oxygen saturation. Remove the oximeter when the test is over. Don’t wear nail polish on the finger you use for the test. Conditions that require checks to blood oxygen levels include: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, anemia, pneumonia, lung cancer, heart problems or defects, and for tests like those used to determine obstructive sleep apnea.
