What is a conserving device?

Conserving Devices are a generic term for a way to conserve the amount of oxygen on oxygen cylinders or conserve battery life on POCs. This allows patients more time before having to refill a tank or recharge a battery.

The most common Conserving Device is called Pulse Dose.

Oxymizers are also a form of Conserving Device used on Continuous Mode only. They are considered Reservoir Cannulas.

  1. Oxymizers come in Pendant and Mustache Style. They do not require any electrical power source.
  2. They have a reservoir along the tubing where oxygen is stored while the patient exhales, and is now available when the patient inhales. This allows for the reduction of flow by as much as 75%.
  3. Your prescription should state what flow you need on your Oxymizer.
