Philips Respironics AsthmaPACK Overview

The Philips Respironics AsthmaPACK helps you manage your asthma and gives you the tools needed to better understand it. The AsthmaPACK will help you to monitor conditions and take prescribed medications correctly. It was designed to improve patient compliance by using three of the NAEPP Asthma Treatment Guidelines into one prescription. Here is a description of each of the elements included in the AsthmaPACK:

Self-Help Booklets: These books are designed to teach patients about what happens during an asthma episode, what can potentially trigger asthma, a methodology to follow the three-zone asthma management process. There is a book designed to teach children how to manage asthma at school. Another book explains the differences between nocturnal, exercise-induced and occupational asthma.

The AsthmaPACK comes with a convenient carrying case to encourage patients to take the pack with them wherever they go. It holds all the products in the pack and 3 inhalers.

OptiChamber Diamond valved holding chamber has spacers that help to reduce side effects of the asthma medication and coordinate the way the medicine is delivered while the patient breaths. This improves patient compliance.

Personal Best Full Range Peak Flow Meter: Patient can use the flow meter to monitor asthma symptoms. It does this using a zone system and a daily record chart.

Instructional videos teach patients how to use the equipment in order to increase patient compliance with asthma medication. They include instructions on how to use the peak flow meter, how to improve delivery of the medication using the valved holding chamber or a spacer, and what all the measurements mean. The videos are in English and Spanish and closed-captioned for disabled patients.
